Our Story

The Origin of Rocketbook

Rocketbook was founded by Joe Lemay to provide a solution that combines the convenience of traditional pen and paper note-taking with the benefits of digital technology.

In 2013, Joe started developing tools and solutions to help people organize, share ideas, save money and paper resources from going into massive waste.

Joe came up with the revolutionary idea of an infinitely reusable smart notebook.

By 2014, with the help of his engineer friend Jake Epstein,  launched the world's first microwave-to-erase, digitally connected smart notebook in less than a year. The Rocketbook Wave was revealed to the world at the Launch Festival in San Francisco and marked the beginning of a series of successful reusable smart notebooks.

The Evolution of Rocketbook

Joe and Jake didn’t stop with the Rockebook Wave, while showing off the Wave on the May 2015 season finale of Shark Tank, they were developing a new reusable smart notebook that didn’t need to rely on a microwave to clean out the book. The Rocketbook Everlast wipe-to-erase technology would be patented and set the new foundation for the future of smart note-taking.

Three new flagship products were created shortly after, the Everlast, Mini and Fusion. The initial versions of the free Rocketbook application for both iOS and Android were developed alongside the first few Rocketbooks.

Our Vision and Mission

Rocketbook has successfully bridged the gap between an erasable notebook and digitalization of handwritten notes. Our ultimate mission was to create a smart notebook that seamlessly integrates the traditional pen-and-paper note-taking experience with the vast digital storage space available on smartphones and other digital devices.

With Rocketbook, users can easily transfer handwritten notes to universally popular cloud services such as Email, Evernote, and Google Drive.

After several updates, new cloud integrations and features, the Rocketbook App has revolutionized the ability to recognize and transcribe handwritten notes for a faster and more efficient way to access older notes.

Sustainability at Rocketbook

Initially, our Rocketbooks were designed to be the ultimate notebook of the future, featuring advanced features such as page scanning into the cloud and 7 icons for easy organization. However, our obsession with bridging the gap between traditional note-taking and the digital landscape led to an accidental discovery. We created the world's first fully erasable, sustainable, and reusable smart notebook.

With our erpetually erasable smart notebooks, users can not only blast notes into the digital cloud but also reuse them infinitely. This innovative solution allows for a more sustainable and eco-friendly note-taking experience.

Who was Rocketbook Made For?

Rocketbook wasn’t made for any one specific demographic in mind, we just wanted to bring the future to the masses, starting with one-time-use notebooks that allowed users to scan and blast their notes into the digital cloud store, which resulted in the physical notebooks becoming redundant. We slowly worked on a reusable option and came out with the Rocketbook Wave (a microwavable notebook), and ultimately our line of damp cloth wipable Rocketbooks.

Anybody (and we mean anybody), can use the Rocketbook for school, work, home use, art projects, and passion projects. Basically, if you have a use for a notebook, you have a use for the Rocketbook! With different styles, colours and sizes to choose from, you’ll be able to have a Rocketbook for any and every occasion.

At Rocketbook, we value innovation and ideas, which is why we actively seek feedback from our amazing community. Our team is constantly developing new features and products based on user suggestions. With over 2 million notebooks being used and over a million app downloads, we are here to help make every idea come to life.
